The concept of smoking tobacco as an 'addiction' is one that plays well into the illness/treatment model that surrounds much of our thinking in these areas.
It also plays well into the hands of a very profitable nicotine replacement pharmaceutical industry and the increasingly popular vaping industry (though it would appear that the latter could be providing a legitimate 'step in the right direction' which represents a safer place for smokers to be.... the jury is out).
What if smoking was actually being propped up in your life by something as simple as your habitual thought patterns?
Our brain is very good at delivering us to our desires, when those desires are external to us, things we want added into our life, but matters become much less clear when we want to remove something from our life.
Our intellectually developed brain will allow the thing we want rid of to remain at the core of our thoughts, even though those thoughts may well be 'I wish it wasn't....I wish I didn't' etc. they are still pointed at the source of the problem, and that is not how we get what we want in other areas of our lives.
The explanation of how this works, and how those problem focused thoughts can be quickly replaced, forms the basis of Alan's stop smoking sessions, as well as understanding so called 'cravings', leaving you free to think about what you actually do
